Mario Zucchelli Base

The Mario Zuc­chel­li Sta­ti­on (MZS), form­er­ly known as BTN (Baia Ter­ra Nova), is a per­ma­nent Ita­li­an sci­en­ti­fic rese­arch sta­ti­on in Ant­ar­c­ti­ca that has been in ope­ra­ti­on sin­ce 1985.

The base is loca­ted in an extra­ter­ri­to­ri­al area wit­hout natio­nal sove­reig­n­ty. Admi­nis­tra­tively, it belongs to the ter­ri­to­ri­al juris­dic­tion of the Ita­li­an Embas­sy in Wel­ling­ton, New Zea­land.
