From the Antarctic Peninsula to the Ross Sea
Part 3 of 7
We have to cover many, many miles across the Bellingshausen Sea and the Amundsen Sea to the Ross Sea. Peter I Island does not want us, so we have some quiet days before we get to the ice of the northern Ross Sea. First Emperor penguin sightings and even a Ross seal, happy to let us have a very good look at it, definitely a highlight, for me one of my big, secret wishes that I had for this voyage, my second one following this itinerary.
Hopes and emotions of all kinds are rising as the ice fields are getting bigger and denser. The Ross Sea does have a big ice year now, there is more ice than there has been for quite some years and for a while we can’t be certain to get anywhere near McMurdo Sound at all.
